What Components Do You Need for a Solar Energy System?

Ever wonder what it takes to create a solar energy system? There are four main components of a solar energy system: The Sun, Solar Panels, Inverters, and Batteries. Our team here at Solect Energy will also help you customize a solar energy system to your needs, walking you through the set up and products you need for maximum efficiency.

The Sun, Of Course!

Every solar energy system harnesses power from the sun. A solar system converts energy from the sun into electricity you can use. That means whenever the sun is shining (yes, even on cloudy days), your panels can generate energy.

Solar Panels

Solar Panels are made up of individual cells that produce energy. These cells are wired together in a series to make up the solar panel. The amount of electricity a panel can generate depends on many factors, including the type of panel, placement of panel, time of day, temperature and more.

Solect Energy offers many different types of solar panels with different features to fit your needs. To find out what panel would be best for your home for business, we recommend getting in touch with us.

Inverter

Every solar system needs an inverter. The inverter is responsible for taking the DC electricity collected from your solar panels, and converting it into AC electricity so that you can power your home! It’s commonly known as the hardest working component of the solar system.

There are two common types of inverters: String Inverters and Microinverters.

A string inverter is usually mounted on the side of your home to collect all of the electricity generated from your system in one accessible place. Solar panels are arranged into groups connected by “Strings,” hence their name. Multiple strings of panels connect to a single inverter.

Microinverters are small components that are attached directly to the underside of each individual solar panel, so that DC can be converted to AC right on the panel itself. Microinverters are great for shaded areas because they ensure that the maximum energy is produced out of each panel.

Batteries

In off-grid and battery backup systems, a local battery bank is necessary to store usable energy on-site. Without them, you will have no way to store power produced by solar panels.

These main components of a solar energy system will ensure you are efficiently harnessing the power of the sun. Solect Energy offers solar kits that include all of the necessary components to make starting a solar energy system smooth. Give us a call, or browse our catalog to see what is available.
